Banana Bike

In 2007 I was commissioned to make an animated sign for a bar located in the atrium of a cruise liner. I was asked to feature a monkey in the piece and so I made a monkey riding a bicycle.
I used a child's bike and painted in a safari style, and added two boxes of bananas.
The monkey is made from ply wood with nylon bearings in all the joints.
Motorised rollers rotate the bikes wheels, which in turn move the pedals and operate the monkeys legs.
Linkages attached to the legs operate the arm, head, mouth and eyes of the monkey.
